A 10-year-old boy who grew his hair for two years has finally said goodbye to his long locks, all in the effort to help children with cancer.

Gabriel Rowcroft-James hadn't had a haircut since he was eight years old, and roughly six months ago, he started discussing a trip to the barbers. However, Gabriel did not want two years of growth to go to waste, and therefore started doing some research.

That's when the 10-year-old - from Milton Keynes, England - found out about the Little Princess Trust, a charity that takes donations of hair to make into wigs out of real hair for other young children suffering from cancer.

Check out Gabriel losing his long locks in the video below:

Over the weekend, Gabriel has a whopping 12 inches of hair cut off, which will now be sent off to the charity.

Not only that, but after learning that it costs the Little Princess Trust £500 ($654) to make just one wig, Gabriel was also able to raise £1,200 ($1,570) in donations.

But Gabriel's hard work didn't stop there. The youngster also managed to convince his mom, 51-year-old Rozi, into donating her hair to the charity too - as she parted with 16 inches of hair and has been left with a stylish pixie cut.

Rozi, a secondary school Maths teacher, said: "We're both thrilled with our new haircuts, and with the amount of money we've raised.

"We've now got enough money for Little Princess Trust to make two and a half wigs.

"Gabriel is delighted. He's been working really hard promoting the fundraising page around our parish, putting it in the local church news sheet, and talking to his Scouts group about it.

"It's been fantastic, and he's really learned a lot about the charity and the wig-making process, and telling other people about it, too."

And his new short-back-and-sides is not Gabriel's only change this weekend - as he picked out two cans of hair spray, colored blue and green, and has been experimenting with the color, too.

Gabriel said: "It still feels a bit odd when I wake up and realize I don't have long hair anymore. But I like it. I'm changing the color between green and blue at the moment.

"I was slightly nervous before I got it cut, mainly because I was so used to having it long.

"But I can regrow my hair. I'm donating it for people who can't, or might not ever be able to grow their hair."

And Rozi said the cause is one that is close to home for both her and Gabriel - as Gabriel's dad, Mark, 50, lost all his hair during chemotherapy as a young child.

She said: "It's not something that Gabriel saw or experienced himself, but his dad has told him about it - so this does have a personal level to it for us."

And Rozi added that both she and Gabriel are "quite excited" about their new hairstyles.

She said: "It's definitely a change for both of us. It feels quite cold on the back of my neck now.

"It's going to take a bit of getting used to - but now that Gabriel is a bit older, he has more of his own ideas about how he wants to style it."
