Now that the ongoing global pandemic has forced so many of us indoors for the foreseeable future, a lot of people finding themselves incredibly bored and looking for something to do.

As more time ticks by, people are realizing that all those hobbies and skills they promised to learn once they had time were nothing but lies, and instead, people are binging box sets and playing video games. In fact, it looks like some people have gone all the way back to 2006 to kill time.

That's right, I have some good news for any naughties kids out there: the classic online social media game Club Penguin Online is back, and it's already garnered more than six million users worldwide.

Take a look at the original trailer for Club Penguin in the video below:

The news of the revival broke on social media earlier this week, when Club Penguin's official Twitter account tweeted:

"We have updated our website! We are preparing for the new era Club Penguin Online is about to enter – and the website transformation is just the beginning, Make sure to check out the new website and the new blog. Special thanks to Huey and Jonas on working on this."

However, the site immediately experienced such a large influx of traffic, that the Twitter account was later forced to issue a follow-up post that read:

"We're thankful that thousands of people are enjoying Club Penguin Online. We updated our servers last week to handle the huge increase of users but looks like we'll need to invest in new servers. [Apologies] if you experience any lag or issues, we're working on it ASAP. [sic]"

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on the new site, Lance Priebe, one of the co-founders of the original Club Penguin, stated: "For most of the kids that are coming back, Club Penguin was where they found their friends. There’s a strong connection there when you have your friendships, your community, your circle."

He added: "It’s important to reconnect with it, especially with that change of life right now. It’s still their home. It’s still their tree fort and playground. It’s still their place. The penguins just all grew up."

The MMO first launched way back in 2005, but the original servers were shut down on March 30, 2017. The new site is now free-to-play, so why not boot it up and revisit your childhood?
