A couple with Down's syndrome have finally tied the knot with over 10,000 well-wishers watching online.

Heidi Crowter, 25, and her partner James Carter, 26, said "I do" at a ceremony in at Hillfields Church in Coventry after coronavirus social distancing guidelines forced them to cut their guest list down from 220 to just 30.

Unlike a lot of couples who planned to get hitched this summer, the pair were lucky enough to have their ceremony on its original planned date as lockdown restrictions were eased just before it took place.

And because so many of the original guests were unable to attend, the couple decided to live stream their nuptials online, but they became so popular that over 10,000 people ended up tuning in.

The happy newlyweds are now planning a "big party" for next year after they had to cancel their original reception and have a meal at a pub afterward.

Their big day was a particularly special event as the couple hadn't seen each other since March, as James spent lockdown at his family home in Weymouth while Heidi spent the lockdown with her family in Coventry.

Hedi spent much of this time worried that she wouldn't be able to marry James and even went as far as to write Boris Johnson a letter saying that she hoped the lockdown would be eased in time for her big day.

Heidi's mom said that the prime minister played his part in making their wedding come true by allowing marriages in the nick of time and said that they all had a lovely day.

The couple's honeymoon has unfortunately been canceled because of the ongoing pandemic, and instead of flying out to the Italian lakes, they are having a staycation in Coventry.

The Metro reports that around 73,600 weddings and same-sex civil partnership ceremonies were postponed during the first three months of lockdown, making Hedi and James one very lucky couple!
