In a startling revelation that's left many rethinking their childhood memories, a TikTok user known as @stupidlittlegenius has unmasked the hidden meaning behind the seemingly harmless nursery rhyme 'It's Raining, It's Pouring.'
While we all sang these tunes in our younger years without delving too much into the lyrics, it turns out some nursery rhymes pack a far darker message than we could have ever imagined.
While many are aware of the grim implications behind the nursery rhyme 'Ring a Ring o' Roses' being about the plague, few would suspect that 'It's Raining, It's Pouring' is anything but a song about bad weather.
But brace yourselves—this classic children's tune is far more troubling than it appears.
The viral TikToker who goes by the handle @stupidlittlegenius explained that the rhyme, which goes: "It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring. He went to bed and bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning," actually contains an alarming cautionary tale.
"Surprisingly this rhyme has nothing to do with the weather at all," she said. Instead, the 'raining and pouring' line cryptically refers to alcoholic drinks being poured like a deluge of cocktails and shots.
She confirmed: "That's right, the old man was drunk, very drunk."
But that’s not even the worst part of this revelation. According to @stupidlittlegenius, the old man, in his inebriated state, went to bed and suffered a life-ending head injury.
She explained: "Anyway, after drinking so much that he couldn't stay awake, he started nodding off and snoring so he decided it's time to sleep it off.
"But, by this point, he was so inebriated, he probably couldn't even walk in a straight line. So, when he went to bed, he stumbled, fell, or otherwise drunkenly bumped his head."
Sadly, the old man didn't wake up, having suffered "major head trauma" from his fall.
She concluded, "A cautionary tale to remind us when it’s raining and pouring alcoholic beverages, don’t drink so much that you bump your head—or you could end up dead!"
The disturbing interpretation of the beloved nursery rhyme has left social media users shocked, with many taking to the comments to express their astonishment.
One user lamented: "Why did my 2yr old self have to sing these nursery rhymes," while another declared: "My childhood is officially ruined."
Others weighed in, speculating that the song was perhaps a warning against going to sleep after a head injury or concussion.
Clearly, this is not the delightful children's rhyme we once thought it was. Nursery rhymes have been around for generations, often serving as a means to teach children important life lessons, but who knew they could be this dark?
We'll never be able to enjoy 'It's Raining, It's Pouring' in quite the same way ever again.
