A teenage Fortnite gamer admitted to receiving a lifetime ban from Fortnite after being caught cheating in a live broadcast. The revelation was made in 17-year-old Jarvis Kaye's latest YouTube video, uploaded on Sunday.
The young gaming guru from Surrey, England revealed that the creators behind Fortnite, Epic Games, had banned him for using "aimbots", a software that helps with shooting in the game.
Kaye, also known as FaZe Jarvis, used the tearful video to address the ban and issue an apology to his 2 million followers.
"All I was thinking about whilst I was making those videos was just how entertaining and interesting these videos would be for you guys to watch," he said. "It didn’t even cross my mind to think that I could be banned for life from Fortnite from those videos."
Jarvis is a member of eSports team FaZe Clan and claims he had only activated them for instruction videos and never used aimbots in competitions.
Jarvis continued:
"I just want to be clear that this is the first time that I have ever done anything like this and of course I have never done this in a competitive game mode at all. Epic Games you know I know how big of a mistake I’ve made and I’m truly like so sorry. Epic, I know I have to take accountability for my actions and I’m going to do my best to accept any punishment that comes my way. I’m not trying to find a quick road out but being banned forever is just – a lifetime ban – is just, I just didn’t this would happen."
The gamer also addressed the ban in a tweet, writing: "I'm going to take accountability for my actions and I understand completely why this has happened, I just wish I had known how severe the consequences were at the time and I would have never thought about doing it."
As part of the FAQ on its website, Epic Games emphasizes that it "takes cheating very seriously on both a legal and game development front."
"We don't want to tip our hand by talking in-depth about how we combat cheating. Cheaters are permanently banned across all Epic products."
