A Massachusetts Grandmother proved that it's never too late by graduating from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) - nearly five decades after she first started college.

Camille MacIsaac, 67, first began her studies in 1972 according to SNHU. This weekend, she finally earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in history after raising a family meant putting it on the "back-burner" for years.

"I always wanted to go back to school but life gets in the way sometimes," MacIsaac, 67, explained in an interview with SNHU reported by People.

MacIsaac, who lives in Lowell, put her college education on hold to raise her two sons. Both went on to earn their undergraduate and master's degrees, with the elder graduating from SNHU's master's program in 2017.

"Around that time, I kept seeing [SNHU's] ads on TV... and I think that was my 'a-ha' moment," said MacIsaac in the interview. "I said, you know what? I'm alone - I do work full time - but I made the call."

MacIsaac enrolled at SNHU and resumed her studies where she'd left them in the 1970s. During this time, her four grandchildren - who range in age from 4 to 9 - would joke with her that she was too old to be in college.

This only made MacIsaac more determined. This weekend, watched by two of her grandchildren and surrounded by her family, she finally celebrated her college graduation and proved that it's never too late to learn something new.

Though she currently works in Corporate America, MacIsaac is hoping that her new degree will help her find a role in education, where she has always dreamed of working as either a teacher or a mentor.

She also hopes that her achievement will teach her grandchildren not to give up on their own dreams.

"This was hopefully a life lesson that you're never too old to try something, you're never too old to go to school [and] you're never too old to better yourself," she said.

"If there's something you've always wanted to do, something to finish, give it another shot," she added. "It might be the right time. And it's never too late."

As well as her grandchildren, MacIsaac's achievement has also been inspiring people on social media.

"I graduated my first degree at 42, and stood next to a 97-year-old graduate! It's NEVER too late!" commented one person on Twitter.
