A five-month-old baby has become a TikTok star after his mom revealed that his new medication has caused him to grow excessive hair all over his body.

Little Mateo Hernandez was born to parents Bri Shelby, 24, and Jared Hernandez, 22, earlier this year. However, at just one-month-old, Mateo was diagnosed with Congenital Hyperinsulinism - a condition that causes the pancreas to create high levels of insulin and causes Mateo to have dangerously low blood sugar levels.

Per Yahoo, Bri has explained that the condition can be life-threatening, but doctors are happy with Mateo as it was caught earlier.

Bri now shares updates on Mateo over on her TikTok account (@blshelby), and the adorable videos have resulted in her amassing over 167,000 followers and millions of views.

The video above has currently received over 92 million views.

In one video, Bri answers several frequently asked questions she receives about her son. She explains:

"So he was put on a medicine called diazoxide, he does not need his hormone levels checked, and he did not have any hair like this before he was born - it came after he started the medicine due to his condition.

"That's why he has a g-tube [gastrostomy tube] in his stomach."

And it's safe to say that Mateo certainly has his supporters, with Bri's comments sections being flooded with love:

The doting mom has also revealed that despite little Mateo getting lots of praise, some people do send her negative comments.

However, in one video, she says that she "doesn't care" about the negative comments, adding: "I'd rather my baby have a full body of hair and be healthy and alive, than to have dangerously low sugars and be in the hospital still."

Per the New York Post, Mateo's doctors believe he will one day outgrow his condition, and therefore no longer require the medication. In theory, this should lead to the youngster shedding his excess hair.

Replying to one TikToker, Bri revealed that the couple are still planning on having more children. They have no idea if any of their future kids will have the condition, due to the fact it is so rare, with the NHS reporting that it affects around 1-in-50,000 babies.

Bri also added that the couple has undergone several genetics tests, all of which came back negative.

We want to wish Mateo and his family all the best in their future!
