A doctor has amazed social media users this week by revealing how and why the phenomenon of deja vu exists in a new video.
The footage in question was uploaded to TikTok by Dr. Karan Raj; an NHS doctor who routinely takes to social media to explain all manners of health and psychological issues, such as sleep paralysis and false memories, to his 3 million followers.
In this latest video, Dr. Raj broke down the phenomenon of Deja Vu – in which seemingly-mundane events feel strangely and unexplainably familiar, stating:
"What is déjà vu? It's basically a glitch in your brain. It's when a new short-term memory gets accidentally stored in the long-term memory.
"So it feels like it's happened before because our brain is telling us it's an old memory. It's just sloppy admin by your brain."
The doctor's explanation clearly resonated with other TikTok users, and the video currently boasts over 825,000 views and more than 2,700 comments as of the time of writing.

For instance, one person wrote: "It happened many times to me. My friends thought i was tripping or something and wanted to take me to the therapists. [sic]"

Another commenter wrote" "Is it just me that gets deja vu where you also know what's coming next, then spend the rest of the day thinking you're psychic? [sic]"

A third viewer commented: "I get it a lot. I've always thought I had dreamt it and it [came] true that's why it's like I've done it before if that makes sense? [sic]"

A fourth viewer wrote: "That's why I feel like I can time travel. [sic]"

Another person wrote: "For me, I dream it or day dream it, and then months or years later experience it, and think I remember experiencing it before."

Finally, someone else chimed in: "Oh yeah. All the time. Crazy how our computer goes haywire. [sic]"
