A doctor has shared a "skin pinch" test that will indicate within seconds whether or not you are dehydrated.
Dr. Karan Raj, a British doctor with 4 million followers on TikTok, explained that the technique - known as the Turgor Test - shows how hydrated you are based on the elasticity of your skin. According to the clip, the less hydrated you are, the less elastic your skin will be.
As for the test - it's a simple one. Simply pinch the skin on your hand and note how long it takes to go back to normal.
Watch the video to see a demonstration of the Turgor Test:Dr. Raj's video was a response to another video on the platform, which originally introduced the little-known technique to TikTok.
In the original video, a man demonstrates the technique, saying: "Dehydration check to see how dehydrated you are you have to squeeze your fingertip right here and if it goes back down you're hydrated. If you squeeze it and it stays up like this you are dehydrated."
It's from this point that Dr. Raj takes over and explains: "This is known as the skin pinch or skin turgor test. The more hydrated you are the more elastic your skin will be and it will bounce back immediately after pinching it.
"If you're dehydrated the skin loses elasticity and it takes a while to return to normal and it's more likely to tent up."
The video, which was posted just a week ago, has now been viewed over six million times at the time of writing. It also has over 700,000 likes and more than 11,000 comments.
A number of social media users even shared their own results from the test, with one person writing: "I just tested mine and it stayed up all the way up. Going to get some water now."
Another said: "I'm dehydrated for sure. And all I do all day is drink water."
While a third joked: "I used to do this for fun... I guess I've been dehydrated this whole time."
