Health expert warns 'you will die early' if you fail simple test that you can do at home
A health expert has revealed a simple test that could tell you whether you are likely to die early.
Of course, it’s not an all-encompassing test, so don’t worry too much - but it could be worth taking note of.
This expert wants you to take a really simple health test
In case you are suffering with health anxiety, just remember that this is essentially something for you to think about, not an unequivocal sign that you will die early.
Also, who wants to live forever anyway?
We all know at least one person who ate McDonald’s and smoked 40 a day and lived to be 108 - but that's not a reliable strategy.
But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t signs you can use to test the overall physical health you are in, and here’s one from a nutrition expert called Ed Jones.
Jones is the founder of health company Nutrition World, having started it up in 1979.
So, he knows a thing or two about it.
Jones reckons that the ‘power of natural health’ unlocks the keys to a long life.
But what does that actually mean?
Well, for the most part, it means keeping things natural, taking notice of holistic health methods, and using herbs and medicinal plants.
In fact, he’s a member of the American Botanical Council, which promotes that sort of thing.
This test can help you determine where your health is at
On an episode of his Nutrition World Podcast, which he hosts alongside his daughter, Cady Kuhlman, Jones remembered something he learned from Dr. Peter Attia, a longevity expert.
Attia is a well-known figure in this field, and even stars like Chris Hemsworth are listening.
Attia worked with the Aussie superstar during the Disney+ series Limitless, helping him understand the ways that humans can try to game the system and extend their life to the maximum.
But, what’s the test?
Basically, the idea is that strength is key.
Weaker people tend to live shorter lives, apparently, so if you are physically strong you have a great chance of living longer.
On the podcast, Jones outlined the importance of ‘grip strength’.
He said: "If you can't hold a dumbbell that's 3/4ths of your weight for one minute, you will die earlier than you would if you were stronger. That beats cholesterol, it beats every blood test.
"How many health professionals have asked you that? None, none."
He went on to explain how the strength of that grip is a calling card for ‘how everything else will weaken’.
"Your heart, every system of your body.
"If you can do this with the right weights, everything else is stronger.
“The stronger and resilient body ages slower and has less disease."
That means that you can’t currently hold a dumbbell for ages, let alone a really heavy one, you might want to think about starting.
There are quite a bit of studies that back this theory up, claiming that those with greater strength tend to get less disease and have better respiratory and cardiovascular health.
It’s got to be worth a go, right?
