Heart surgeon warns people about ‘red flag’ sign that could lead to ‘massive heart attack’
A heart surgeon has revealed one health ‘red flag’ that you shouldn’t ignore, as it could be a sign of a ‘massive heart attack’.
Definitely something to watch out for, given how common a killer it is.
Your heart is among the most important organs in the body
It goes without saying that you can’t live without a heart.
Sure, the brain, the liver, kidneys, and all of that good stuff are important, but if your ticker gives out, it’s curtains for you, usually.
So, as with all health concerns, it’s important to know the symptoms you need to spot, as well as what to do in an emergency.
Luckily, in the internet age we have health professionals on hand to share their knowledge with us and teach us the signs to watch out for.
Dr. Jeremy London one of those doctors.
He shares his information social media, keeping his followers up to date with what to watch for, and what to do if bad situations arise.
This is a really important one.
Dr. Jeremy London speaks from experience
The good doctor knows a thing or two about this ailment both professionally and personally.
You could even say it’s close to his heart.
You could, but whether you should is a different matter.
That’s because London suffered a heart attack himself, and claims that he made mistakes and ignored some key warning signs even as they were happening to him.
Before his heart had a struggle, Jeremy had low energy, was seriously fatigued, had heartburn-like symptoms, and then had a sharp chest pain.
In his video, he revealed three key risk factors which can cause death from heart attack, and they aren’t that surprising really.
They are smoking, bad diet, and high blood pressure.
You know that already though, right?
One piece of potentially ‘life-saving advice’
In a YouTube video, Dr London revealed another key tip - and it could make the difference.
He explained: "What's one piece of life-saving advice that could prevent someone from having a massive heart attack?
"Well, if you get chest pain or shortness of breath with exertion that's relieved with rest, this is a red flag."Now, I'm not talking about running a marathon. I'm talking about basic activities of daily living, taking out the trash, going up a flight of stairs, because what's happening is with an important blockage, as you exert yourself, the heart muscle below is not getting enough oxygen and nutrients.”
This isn’t something you should ignore.
He continued: "Now, most people just shrug this off as 'I'm getting older' or they scale their lifestyle.
“They park closer at the grocery store. They take the elevator. But these are warning signs.
"You need to have some intellectual honesty about what your body is telling you. And remember, denial is not a river in Egypt.”
Good advice.
Having a strong heart is of vital importance, and it can stand you in great stead for a long and healthy life, so when health professionals tell you about it, listen up.
Last warning on this red flag: "Shortness of breath when walking, the inability to lay flat and breath comfortably and swollen legs.
“All the signs of many different heart conditions should be red flags."
There you have it.
