Mom of adult star Emily Willis issues update on daughter after she was left with brain damage
The mother of adult star Emily Willis has shared an update on her daughter's health after she was left disabled following a cardiac arrest.
On January 27, 2024, adult film star Emily Willis checked into Summit Malibu, an upmarket rehabilitation center in California.
Emily, whose real name is Litzy Lara Banuelos, was attempting to overcome a ketamine addiction.
Her relatives insist that she arrived at the facility drug-free and was completely dedicated to transforming her life. Nevertheless, just eight days later, on February 4, a nurse practitioner found Emily unresponsive in her room.
Emergency services were summoned, and CPR was administered straight away. However, it remains uncertain exactly how long she had been in that condition before being discovered.
When paramedics reached the scene, they carried out intensive resuscitation attempts for up to 40 minutes before her heart started beating once more.
The devastating incident caused catastrophic brain damage, and Emily was subsequently declared permanently disabled.
Updates regarding her health have been emerging from both her relatives and solicitor over the past two years.
Now, her mother, Yesenia Cooper, has disclosed fresh details about her daughter's movement and communication.
Non-verbal communication and cognitive awareness
In a discussion with TMZ, Yesenia says Emily remains non-verbal but can communicate with her. She allegedly uses her eyes and shakes her head.
As previously reported, Yesenia has now disclosed that Emily is aware of her surroundings. The mum asserted that her daughter comprehends about 80% of what's happening around her.
Physical progress and everyday activities
Yesenia also provided further details on Emily's mobility, following earlier reports that she was confined to bed. She informed TMZ that Emily's recovery is gradual but she has begun to relearn how to walk.
She also mentioned that Emily, who still requires assistance with eating, can sleep independently.
Watching television and movies in bed is a specific activity she can now enjoy during her ongoing recovery.
Financial settlement with treatment center
These updates follow reports that Emily's family secured a $3million settlement after suing the facility, alleging they failed to adequately care for Emily while she was receiving treatment for ketamine addiction at Summit Malibu earlier that year.
The defendants denied any wrongdoing and did not accept liability in the settlement.
