A woman who gouged out both of her own eyes while on drugs has received her first pair of prosthetic eyeballs.
Back in February of 2018, Kaylee Muthart - then 21 years old - ripped out both her eyes while in a meth-induced psychotic frenzy. A horrified bystander witnessed the entire incident while attempting to restrain her.
Kaylee was rushed to hospital, where doctors informed her that the damaged she caused meant she would be blind for the rest of her life.
The emotional moment Kaylee receives her new prosthetic eyeballs:However, the disturbing ordeal served as a wake-up call for Kaylee, as she became determined to change her life for the good. She entered rehabs and became committed to quitting drugs for good.
Two years later, and a 22-year-old Kaylee is clean and healthy.

In fact, the South Carolina native was fortunate to receive her first pair of prosthetic eyeballs on August 5 - thanks Dr. Joseph Gorrin, of Gorrin’s Clinic in Greenville.
Speaking of her new prosthetics, Kaylee - who is currently enrolled in blind school - said: "I was so excited to get them. I just wanted to appear more normal to the outside world."

Her doting boyfriend, 42-year-old Alex, was also there to witness the heartwarming moment. He said: "It melted my heart.
"She was never any different to me, but I know she’s wanted this for a very long time and I’m so happy she has this now.
"I felt so much joy, love, appreciation, and thanks to God. Seeing Kaylee happy makes me happy She is always an upbeat and positive person, but this made her extra happy.
"It was incredible to be able to look in her eyes."
Kaylee added: "I said, 'I feel like I’m Kaylee again' and Alex said, 'You’ve always been Kaylee to me.' He cried when he saw me."
After her new prosthetic eyes were fitted, Kaylee had a video call with her mom, Katy, to show off the results.
"She cried with happiness too," said Kaylee. "She is so excited for me and this next chapter in my life."

Kaylee and Alex, who have been dating since January, then celebrated with a special dinner at Applebees - where they had their first date.
"Before we had dinner I put on my own makeup for the first time since I lost my sight, that felt very special," Kaylee said.
Attending blind school has taught Kaylee how to be self-sufficient in her day-to-day life, and she will soon be receiving a guide dog further assist her.

Speaking of what blind school has taught her, Kaylee said: "I’ve learned a decent amount of brail and I can cook, use a stove, wash clothes, make the bed and look after pets now.
"I’m planning to go back to school to get my high school diploma, and then an associates degree. I want to get up as high as I can.
"I’ve come such a long way from two years ago."
Speaking about kicking her drug habit, Kaylee said: "Coming off meth was awful, physically and mentally, there was hallucinations and psychosis, but I overcame it thanks to God."
Kaylee has also started writing a book about her experiences, which holds the working title Kaylee’s Story.
