I guess many of us were hoping for some divine intervention by this point, and for worshippers in Colombia, the opportunity to catch a glimpse of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is worth breaking the nation's lockdown rules for.

However, I wouldn't get your hopes up about a second-coming, as the image that they claim to be of Jesus Christ has been spotted on a ceiba tree in the country's northern town of Magangue, UK tabloid The Sun reports.

As bizarre as it may sound, this is not the first time Jesus' image has appeared on a tree:

Illuminated in the dark, the tree does somewhat resemble the image of Jesus Christ on the crucifix, with the outstretched shape branches echoing that of Christ's arms on the cross. On the trunk of the tree, markings bearing a resemblance to Jesus' face can also be made out.

The religious depiction drew crowds of people to the street, with many queueing up to get a closer look and take photographs of the shape.

According to the John Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, Colombia has currently recorded 1,780 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and death toll of at least 50 people (at the time of this writing).

Like many countries around the world, Columbia had enforced curfews across the country and closed it's land and sea borders.

Regardless, rather than heed the advice of the government, many citizens still turned out to see the tree.

Rafael Rodriguez, a journalist with El Tiempo, said that he saw dozens of people turn out to catch a glimpse of the figure, explaining that the holy image made them forget about the ongoing global pandemic.

Rodriguez added that many of the people queuing to see the tree wanted to pray to the figure for the pandemic to pass, with local shopkeeper Agustina Diaz saying that people are asking the Earth to be cured of the evil and for Magangue to be protected.

Authorities are now reportedly concerned about the tree becoming a pilgrimage site after the figure first appeared last Sunday. According to The Sun, reports say the mayor of Magangue, Carlos Cabrales, attended the site with police in order to instruct people to return to their homes.
