An Instacart worker is being hailed as a hero after sharing her story about how she saved a customer's life.
In an emotional video uploaded to social media, mom Jessica Higgs revealed that she is currently working as a shopper for Instacart - a delivery service that allows users to have groceries delivered to their door.
Higgs - who uses the handle @jessicahiggs3 on TikTok - recalled receiving an order from a woman who wished to have some groceries delivered to his house, due to the fact he couldn't shop for himself.
She tells the viewers: "I’m going the extra mile for this customer like I always do, but for whatever reason, this time I was going even further in checking the back and everything."
Higgs revealed that "something" was telling her that she had to check on the gentleman and "help this man out".
Check out this incredible story below:Opting to break Instacart’s protocol of leaving the delivery at the door, taking a photo, and leaving - as per the daughter's request - Higgs said: "I used my judgment and I brought the groceries inside and I put them down wherever he wanted me to put them, and you’re not supposed to but I did."
However, upon entering the man's house, she realized that the man was not well and she started to become concerned.
As a result, she messaged the man's daughter (who had originally set up the order). "So I messaged her and I said, ‘If I say that the order is complete, I won’t be able to message you and I want to tell you this,'" Higgs said.
After spotting a propane tank, Higgs said that she suspected there was a gas leak: "I was in there maybe five feet and I got dizzy. And I said there’s got to be a leak," she recalled.
When Higgs informed the man's daughter, she was told that the man's grandson would be coming round to check on him. Additionally, the woman changed her tip from $14 to $100, something that Higgs said she is grateful for.
However, Higgs then revealed the reason she was so emotional in the video. She had received a message from the man's daughter, which read: "Thank you so much, once my son went to check on my dad it turned out it definitely was leaking, you definitely saved my dad and my younger son’s life!!!"
Higgs ended her video by reiterating her message: "If you see something, say something!"
As of this writing, the video has received more than 15 million views, with people in the comments section branding Higgs a hero.
Even supermodel Bella Hadid took a moment to tell Higgs that she is working in a job that helps people in so many ways:
And the praise just kept coming:
Instacart has also since provided a statement on Higgs' story, telling WTSP: "We are constantly inspired by the incredible people who choose to be Instacart shoppers and intentionally make a positive impact in the lives of others. This story touched our hearts and we are grateful for shoppers like Jessica."
You are a hero, Jessica!
