A girl who came out as transgender to her family has also given her father the strength to do the same.

Per Good Morning America, Corey Maison knew from the age of two that she wasn't the gender she'd been assigned at birth.

She was bullied at school for feeling like she was born into the wrong body, due to her growing up in a conservative Christian area.

She eventually opened up to her parents and embraced her true self at the age of 11, and went through female hormone therapy at the age of 14.

Take a look at this news report on Corey and Eric in the video below:

Her father, Eric, had been struggling with feelings of gender dysphoria himself and wanted to transition from female to male. However, he was worried about how his husband and five children would react.

However, four years after his own daughter's transition, Eric was inspired by her courage to go through his own, beginning in the fall of 2015.

Commenting on their relationship and experiences transitioning together in a past interview with ABC News, Corey stated: "It has been awesome."

She added: "I know that I'm not alone, and he understands what I am going through, especially when I am having a rough day, or I if am really upset about something, he is always there."

Meanwhile, Eric's partner and Corey's other father, Les Maison, stated that Eric coming out as transgender was a surprise to him at first.

But he was totally supportive of his partner's decision, and later stated that he was glad that Eric was brave enough to tell him the truth, and now has the chance to live his life as a man.

Per ABC News, Les stated in a letter written to the publication that: "It has been great watching [Eric] finally find himself and be free to live his authentic truth.

"He knows I will always be there right beside him through everything, not just transitioning. When I said: 'I do,' I meant it until I die. No matter what life throws at us, we will face it together until the very end."
