Teen entertainer JoJo Siwa made television history after she performed with a partner of the same sex as a contestant on the popular reality show Dancing With The Stars.

Season 30 of Dancing With The Stars kicked off with a bang on Monday, September 20, as the competition series' first same-sex partnership did the LGBTQ community immensely proud with their closing performance, People reports.

During yesterday's premiere, 18-year-old Siwa and 27-year-old Jenna Johnson performed the foxtrot, and ultimately received the highest score of the night - a 29 out of 40.

The Nickelodeon star told producers in a confessional for the show: "This is a whole new ball game for me. I've never done anything ballroom before. It's a learning experience that I'm more than ready for."

At one point during their otherwise incredible performance, Johnson slipped a little. However, she and Siwa simply carried on and still outshone their competitors.

Last month, Siwa and Olympic gymnast Suni Lee were announced as two of the stars to feature on DWTS. It was also reported that the teen YouTuber would be paired with a female dancer as opposed to a male dance - a first in DWTS history.

Speaking ahead of her first dance, Siwa said: "For the first time in Dancing with the Stars history, I am dancing with another female, and I'm really, really proud. I came out in early 2021 and what I love to do is make truly being who you are easier for kids."

The former Dance Moms star publicly came out as a member of the LGBTQ community in January.

She shared the news during an Instagram live video, just weeks after her fans began speculating over her sexuality when she posted a picture of herself wearing a shirt that read, "Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever".

Siwa decided not to disclose how she personally chooses to identify - just that she is a part of the LGBTQ community.

She explained her reasoning in her coming-out video: "I'm not ready to say this answer because I don't really know this answer. I think humans are incredible people.

"Right now, what matters is that you guys know that no matter who you love that it's OK and that it's awesome, and the world is there for you! There are so many people that are there for you."
