Leyna Bloom has made history as the first trans woman of color to feature in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Since the launch of the magazine back in 1954, Bloom is the only transgender woman of color to make an appearance in the annual issue.
The model and actress, who is Black and Filipino, wrote of the honor on Instagram: "This is what it looks like to be in full bloom. Thank you @si_swimsuit for allowing me to showcase my heavenly form. My spirit has reached new levels.
"This moment is bigger than my wildest infinite dreams. In this moment, I am a representation of all the communities I grew from, and all the communities I’m planting seeds in."
Also taking to Instagram, MJ Day, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit's Editor In Chief, called Bloom "strikingly gorgeous and has an undeniable sense of self that shines through the minute she walks on set."
She went on: "Her story represents one grounded in resilience and we couldn’t be more thrilled to help her tell it.
"Her presence as the first trans woman of color to be in our issue is a result of her lifetime dedication to forging her own path that has led to acceptance, love, and change.
"She represents every person’s right to love themselves and be who they want to be. We are honored to have her in this year's issue and understand the effect it will have on so many others.
"She joins our team, not because of what she represents but because of her beauty, commitment, and desire to leave the world a better place."
Per USA Today, the honor comes after Bloom stunned crowds at New York Fashion Week in September 2017 as one of the only openly transgender models. She was also the first transgender woman of color to appear in Vogue India in October 2017.
"It’s not just in the trans community," Bloom told Glamour. "It’s in my Black community. It’s in my Asian community. I’m the product of deportation and immigration so I’m a product of many different things in our society that I have to use my voice to stand up for."
Last summer, Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio became the very first transgender model to grace the pages of Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue
A year before the unprecedented issue, Sampaio became Victoria's Secret's first openly transgender model.
