The DC Comics character Robin has been revealed to be bisexual in a new Batman comic.

According to ComicBook.com, Tim Drake - the third person to assume the mantle of Batman's sidekick Robin - came out as bi in Batman: Urban Legends issue six, the latest installment of the ongoing Batman Family anthology series.

Bleeding Cool reports that the plot of the issue concerns Tim Drake meeting with an old male friend of his called Bernard. Throughout the story, Tim Drake appears to show some confusion about his feelings for his friend, but later says he is open to figuring them out.

The issue ends with Benard asking Tim Drake out on a date, to which the Boy Wonder consents, which seems to show that the character is willing to explore his feelings and sexuality further.

On Twitter, a number of comic book fans have since reacted with elation to the news of this unexpected revelation.

For instance, one person wrote: "We need to discuss the implications of #Robin being bisexual because this is a moment for the history books yall."

Another commented: "Tim Drake is not only the best Robin now but also the BISEXUAL ROBIN I CAN'T THINK ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE RIGHT NOW. [sic]"

A third added: "Canon Bi Tim Drake?? In my lifetime??? APPARENTLY MORE LIKELY THAN I THINK???? [sic]"

Then this fan stated: "guys im crying like a baby. tim drake is canonically bi. [sic]"

And then this person penned: "LISTEN TIM DRAKE BEING CONFIRMED AS BI IS LITERALLY MAKING ME CRY IM SO HAPPY. [sic]"

Another person added: "TIM DRAKE IS OFFICIALLY BI IN THE COMICS [sic]"

Then a fan gushed: "i was going to tweet these later, but i can’t help myself. i’m so happy for tim drake and i’m so happy for all my fellow queer folk [...] we truly won."

Meanwhile, another Twitter user wrote: "Yeah I’m fine and taking the news of canon bi Tim Drake very well why would you even ask that."

The character of Tim Drake made his first appearance in the 1989 series Batman: Year Three, where he was named after director Tim Burton.

He later assumed the role of Robin following on from the controversial death of Jason Todd at the hands of The Joker.
