Many of us have some sort of vision for what our dream home would look like. Perhaps you want modern luxury, or classical comfort. It's probably unlikely, though, that the house of your dreams contains a nine-cell jail.

Listings for unorthodox houses have become increasingly popular in recent years, as would-be buyers search for something a little bit different in lieu of all the new-build tower block apartments that seem to pop up with alarming speed every week.

And now a truly bonkers two-story home in Fayette City, Missouri has made waves on the internet for one rather striking feature: a fully-functional nine-cell jail.

A portion of an extremely enthusiastic description of the property House of Brokers Realty reads:

"WAIT until you get to picture #30!! 1875 Howard County Sheriff's House and Jail. Extremely unique opportunity!! Extensive renovation in 2005 (supposedly $1.5 million) captures modern high end finishes with traditional architecture and character.

This home is 2465 sq ft with three levels of living area, 2 bedroom. 1.5 bath, high end finish throughout, appears to have been totally rewired, replumbed and new HVAC zoned system installed."

The description continues, "AND THE BEST PART, connected to the home is a 2500 sq ft legitimate jail with 9 cells, booking room and 1/2 bath. There is a full basement under the home with lighting throughout."

Rather ominously, the listing concludes that the "Possibilities are amazing with this property".
