Summer is almost here, which means that cocktail season is almost upon us once again. Which in turn means good news for all you booze hounds out there, because Malibu has risen to the occasion with a new rum-based drink just in time for those pool parties and barbecues.

The new rum will be packed with flavours of strawberry and coconut and will go on sale from May 22, sold exclusively at the British supermarket Tesco.

The 75cl bottles come will cost approximately £9.50 ($12.28) each. The strawberry tipple is said to be best enjoyed poured over ice, and weighs in at 11% ABV.

The product was first created by Tom Jago of International Distillers & Vintners back in 1982, and was originally made from fruit spirits and then flavoured with rum and coconut in Curaçao.

Originally, the product was used to simplify the making of piña coladas by bartenders, but it soon proved popular in its own right. Malibu rum is currently made by West Indies Rum Distillery.

Although the original form of Malibu was coconut flavoured, a number of new flavours have hit the market since the drink's inception, including banana, pineapple, passion fruit, island melon, and mango, as well as Malibu Fresh, a special blend with mint, a tequila known as Malibu Red, and a double-strength version called Malibu Black.

Personally, I can wait to pick up a bottle of this from my local store. Bottoms up!
