A woman has revealed that she was asked to pay £3.50 ($4.70) back to her date after she told him she wasn't interested in a second date.
Taking to Twitter last week, a UK-based user on the platform, who goes by the handle @LaurenNotLozza, shared screenshots of messages exchanged between her and her date.
The first message was sent by the man she had her date with, who appeared keen to see Lauren again.
The unnamed man wrote: "Hey, it was good to see you tonight. Fancy meeting up again?"
To which, Lauren responded with a polite but firm no: "Sorry for the delay! Was lovely to meet you but not sure we had that chemistry. Hope you had a good evening. Take care x."
Check the messages out here:The man, however, was persistent and suggested Lauren come over to his the next day for a home-cooked dinner.
"How about I cook dinner for you tomorrow and we'll see what happens? If we don't click, we can leave it. We communicate naturally. It's a good start. Let's give us a chance," he wrote.
But Lauren didn't back down and again turned down the offer of a second date.
She responded: "Sorry but I wouldn't go to someone's house when I barely know them. Unfortunately, I'm overly romantic and a big believer in feeling some kind of spark early on. Wish you all the best though."
And that's when things turned a little sour.
The man then decided to ask Lauren for the money he paid for her coffee on the date - £3.50 ($4.70).
"Ok, fair enough. Can you pay me back for your coffee? I don't like wasting money. Prefer to use it on a date with someone else," he said.
But Lauren had other ideas - she suggested donating the money to a charity instead, writing: "It’s a shame you consider a date to be a waste when it doesn’t end on your terms. How about I donate £3.50 to a charity of your choice to give you a chance to regain some decorum?
"I can even bump it up to £5 to cover your bus journey too if you’d like? Might I be so bold as to suggest the Royal British Legion as it was Armistice Day yesterday."
The man, however, would accept nothing other than a bank transfer and included his bank details in a separate message.
Since it was posted last Friday, the screenshots have racked up over 3,000 likes and hundreds of replies.
Many of the commenters were in disbelief at the fact that the man felt aggrieved enough to ask for reimbursement:
