A man has taken to social media to recall quitting his old job after his boss told him he couldn't have three weeks off for his honeymoon.

Sharing the incredible yet infuriating story to Reddit's 'Malicious Compliance' subreddit (dedicated to those who follow instructions despite knowing they will cause harm), user 'WhoSc3w3dDaP00ch' titled his post: "'Reconsider working here if I want to take a honeymoon? OK!'"

The Redditor explained that he used to work for a manager who seldom checked his emails and "spent a lot of time 'playing golf with clients'" - we all know the sort.

Well, a whole eight weeks prior to his wedding, the Redditor explains that he requested three weeks off for his honeymoon. He added: "EVERYONE knew I was getting married, [my] manager even congratulated me on the engagement when it happened.

"I had 5 weeks vacation accumulated and didn't think it would be a big deal," he writes, especially as he was letting his superior know weeks in advance.

However, he reveals that he received a "vacation request denied" email comes in from the company's "time off" system.

After receiving the email, he explains: "I emailed manager following up, left voice mails, and after a week he finally replied to an email."

That email read: "Look, we need dedicated people, if you think you can take 3 weeks off for a vacation, you need to reconsider your position here."

The Redditor explains that his manager said all this despite the request clearly stating that it was a vacation for his honeymoon.

Rightfully putting his future wife and his own life ahead of his job, the Redditor replied with: "No consideration needed, my last day will be . Let me know about transitioning duties."

Following this, HR set up an exit interview and told his manager to set up a transition of duties meeting for those on the team.

However, his manager never set up a transition plan, leaving the whole team in the dark.

One week after leaving the company, the Redditor explains how he received a call from his boss, in which he asked: "Are you planning on coming in this week?"

After explaining to his former boss that he no longer works for the company due to his vacation request being denied, his boss said: "How about giving proper notice and transitions?"

The former employee responded by telling the boss: "HR asked you to develop a transition plan and to attend my exit interview. It's not my fault you don't read all your emails."

After hanging up and blocking his ex-boss' phone number, the Redditor reveals that see sent an email to the HR department of the company asking: "Should I be worried thinks I still work for him?"

He then explains that, in the fallout, his old boss was fired from the company after higher-ups realized he hadn't been fulfilling his managerial duties and he'd actually be playing golf alone - not with clients.

For our heroic Redditor though, he revealed that he found a new job with a nice new pay bump - and was able to go on his honeymoon for the full three weeks.

This story clearly hit home with many other Reddit users, as it has received more than 29,000 upvotes in just two days, as well as over 600 comments.

As one commenter perfectly said: "Never give an ultimatum you're not prepared for the other party to take."
