Whenever McDonald's comes up with a new menu item or twist on an old favourite, it's fair to say that we are - sorry - Lovin' It. Remember when they gave us a giant Big Mac and we lost our minds? Or when they gave us a really small Big Mac and we... also lost our minds, for some reason?
One thing we don't think about when we're chowing down underneath the Golden Arches is all the foods we're leaving behind in the pursuit of fast food novelty. As you're enjoying new Cheesy Bites or those Tastes of the World burgers, you might have missed something else which might never come back.
What's the date today? Depending on when you read this, it's probably somewhere in October 2018, but that's not important - all we have to know is that it's well past September 26. And that means one of your favourites has been read its last rites, sent to the the McDonald's location up in the sky. (Of course they have McDonald's in heaven.)
Ladies and gentlemen, I know that summer has come and passed, and we're smack-dab in the middle of Pumpkin Spiced Latte season. But if you were at McDonald's and you wanted to reprise that summer feeling in the brisk autumn breeze and you weren't feeling fancy enough for a McFlurry, then you might resort to a nice sundae.
Caramel or strawberry are your best flavours, I feel, and they're a nice sweet treat for the ages. Or, at least they were - sundaes have been quietly removed from the McDonald's menu, and it's going to be a while before it comes back, if ever. This is reportedly down to demand, with bosses explaining that they "weren't very popular", but that doesn't mean people aren't upset.
From simply expressed regret to outright rage, you can see above that people aren't too happy about this discontinuing one bit.
"Dear McDonalds, Why have you stopped selling the Toffee Sundae? My mum is heartbroken, she didn’t even get to say goodbye," said one sad Twitter user, while another probably wasn't exaggerating too much when they said: "McDonald's discontinuing the toffee sundae has already ruined my October."
So vicious was the backlash, the McDonald's Twitter account was forced to reply to one disgruntled, sundae-less customer, explaining in a little more detail what exactly had gone down.
"Hi, the Toffee Sundae and Strawberry Sundae were removed from the McDonald's menu on Wednesday 26th September 2018, and they were removed because they weren't very popular. The Government recommendations regarding sugar also played a part in the removal."
They also added that while we were losing sundaes, we'd be getting something back that we once thought lost forever: "The removal of Sundaes from our menu makes room for the mini McFlurry and promotional favourites like the Smarties McFlurry, which have proved incredibly popular with customers."
People are still mad, though, and some have even started a petition to rescue the beloved sundae from the brink. McDonald's, however, say there are "no plans" to bring the sundae back.
