A mother has gone viral on social media after she explained why she stopped paying her daughter's tuition fees after discovering her OnlyFans account.
The unnamed woman took to a subforum on Reddit called Am I The A**hole - where users post about a recent grievance or conflict they've had and the community then votes on whether or not the original poster was in the wrong - to share her story.
In this instance, the woman in question asked: "AITA for refusing to pay my daughter's college tuition after learning that she makes $5k/month on OnlyFans?"

In a lengthy post, the mom wrote that her daughter, who she called "Jess", is currently a college junior who set up an OnlyFans account during quarantine.
Jess currently earns $5,000 each month and she says she's expected to start earning even more and has been saving it to buy herself a dream apartment after college.
However, after Jess' father lost his job due to COVID, with $45,000 still left to pay, her parents decided that Jess could afford to pay for her senior year herself.
The mom added: "We brought this up to Jess and laid out all of our reasons, but she was extremely upset and felt that we broke our promise.
"She said that we wouldn't have been so quick to jump on this idea if she'd made her money through other, more "hardworking" means and that she should've never told me her earnings. Jess is no longer speaking with us."

The mother's post picked up more than 4,000 upvotes and a further 800 comments, with a number of other Reddit users defending her and her husband's decision to withdraw their financial support.
For instance, one person wrote: "If she is making 5k per month, then she is an adult enough to pay for her education. This is a different time. You are hurting financially and she is making about 60k per year.
"She can be responsible and take care of her education. You aren't judging her, you are making a decision based upon financial need and she should understand that. [sic]"

Another person commented: "OP's edit says she is in danger of not being able to pay the mortgage and losing their house. If they were my parents in this much trouble, I wouldn't even care of I had no income at all, I would take on loans to finish school, as lots of people do. [sic]"

Someone else chimed in: "If she's making 5k a month, why does she even need a degree? I have two and have never earned anywhere close to 60k a year. Clearly I've made some poor life choices."

Another person wrote "You had a life changing event (the loss of your husband’s job). Other students in her position would take students loans. She’s lucky that she has an income. She’s upset and that’s understandable.
"You’re upset too because I’m sure this is not what you would prefer to do as a parent. Sadly, we are in the middle of a world crisis that resulted in the loss of your husband’s job. It’s more important than ever to have a cushion now. [sic]"

Finally, someone else added: "The fact that the daughter immediately thinks it’s related to what she does for a living shows she has some major insecurities about what she does."
