A mom has sparked a debate online after posting a video of her shaving her daughter's upper lip and eyebrows.
Vidya Gopalan - who goes by the handle @queencitytrends on TikTok - is a 38-year-old mom-of-two who frequently shares wholesome clips of her family with her over 2.6 million followers.
Back in May, Gopalan took to the video-sharing platform to post a video of her removing her 12-year-old daughter Sahana's facial hair, something the mom wasn’t allowed to do as a child.
In the viral footage, which amassed over 35.7 million views, the mom explained that she gave her kid a little trim so that she wouldn't get bullied in school, and asked other parents to follow suit.
Watch the TikTok below:"Ain't no way you are getting bullied for your beautiful thick Indian brows," the mom-of-two wrote in the overlay text, and captioned the viral video: "Most gorgeous brows ever."
While shaving her daughter's eyebrows and upper lip with a razor, Gopalan revealed why she thought to help the 12-year-old remove the hair. "I remember getting made fun of when I was your age," she said, noting that it was because she had thick brows and facial hair.
Sahana then asked why her mom didn't shave her face from a young age, Gopalan responded: "Because my mom didn't let me."
Viewers flooded the comments section with praise for the mom's attentiveness, and remarked that her relationship with her daughter "warmed their hearts".
One user wrote: "This warms my heart!! I got teased so much and my mom didn’t let me get my brows waxed till my freshman year of high school."
Another said: "So sweet of you to do this for her. I remember getting bullied for my unibrow and mustache all the time. It’s traumatizing."
A third commented: "I’ll never forget when a girl made a [comment] about hair on my upper lip in 6th grade. I didn’t know it was there until that. She’s so lucky to have you!"

However, not everyone agreed with Gopalan's approach as some pointed out that the mom should be teaching her daughter to love her insecurities from a young age.
One user stated: "What you're doing is great, but if my kid was being bullied I'd fix the problem, I'd rather her grow to love it later than hate it from the start."
Someone else interjected: "I don't think this is the right move. let her experiment with what she thinks she wants. if she keeps it, then it's her decision."
Another added: "Eyebrows always look worse when ur young but then u grow into them and they grow to the way ur face and if u don’t touch them and keep it natural."
