Earlier this year in February, a mom-of-two from the UK shared a hack she uses to get her sons to do chores without complaining - and it's genius!
Taking to Instagram, Rachel Riley, whose handle is @this_mum_makes posted a photo of her color-coded "chore board".
The Insta blogger explained how she used to award her boys, Reuben and Christian when they behaved by giving them a piece of dry pasta to place in a jar. Once the jaw was full, they would receive £5 ($7).
However, as they grew older, Rachel felt the need to teach her kids about the value of money. So she created a chore board to "bribe" them into helping with the housework.
As per the chart, Reuben and Christian will get 5p ($0.07) every time they clear up after breakfast and dinner, 10p ($0.13) for sweeping the kitchen floor, and 20p ($0.26) for stripping their beds on a Saturday.
Rachel wrote in the caption to the post: "Some of these tasks they already did without expecting anything in return - but as I frigging hate stripping beds and making packed lunches, I really don't mind them getting a bit of money for that."
Rachel made the labels on the board herself and purchased the corkboard and string from B&M and the mini pegs from This Works.
Rachel also confessed that she is finding it a task in itself to get her eldest son to do his homework.
She added in the caption: "Reuben quite honestly has me on the verge of a breakdown every week. I try to make it fun and be enthusiastic but it becomes a 'battle' and can literally go on for hours and before I know it, our Saturday morning has gone."
In order to help her resolve the issue, Rachel gives him 50p ($0.70) each time he does his homework without complaint.
Rachel puts all the money her boys have made using the chore board into a pot at the end of the week. But they are only allowed to spend their pocket money at the end of the month.
