For many parents, leaving their children in the loving arms of their grandparents is the next best thing to holding them ourselves.

We trust them to love, spoil, and protect our children while we spend a few hours to ourselves so we can get a little break from parenthood.

However, TikToker Tawana T.R. - who goes by the handle @tawanatr - found herself in a predicament after she picked up her toddler, River, who was spending the weekend at her grandma's house.

Tawana expected her baby to be returned in the same condition she left her in, but instead, she got the shock of her life.

Watch the TikTok below:

In the TikTok video, Tawana shared the striking before and after pictures of her daughter. In the first photo, we see River donning red rights, a white dress, and perfectly styled hair before being dropped off.

The second clip - which has the famous 'Oh no' sound playing - reveals a smiling River eating in her car seat, but this time, the little girl is sporting a bald head. "Just great," the furious mom captioned the clip.

The viral video amassed a staggering 25.3 million views on the social media platform, with many shocked users sharing their reactions to the drastic change.

One stunned user wrote: "The way I was expecting messy curls and pjs vs the way my jaw DROPPED," and another appalled person remarked: "No way. I’m absolutely devastated for you."

A third shared a similar experience with their father, writing: "My dad did this to my son bc he didn’t like his long hair so I waited for him to be drunk and asleep and cut his hair off lol I don’t play," and someone else added: "My heart breaks for you. My ex’s mom did this to my son and I lost my first child’s first haircut. It hurts."

A fourth said: "This genuinely would be enough to make me cut contact with a family member. I’m so sorry, this is so devastating."

Tawana opened up about the impromptu hairdresser's appointment in a follow-up video and expressed that she is "still in disbelief" over what had happened to her child.

She explained that if you are from Zimbabwe, "they have this thing that the hair that a child's been born with from the womb is like dirty and is not clean," and said that some people believe shaving a baby's hair will improve its quality. However, when the family shaved Tawana's hair as a child, it came back worse.

"I dropped [her daughter] off at my mum's house, normal routine, she goes there every weekend," the mom continued. "I then get a text in the group chat and they've sent me a video of a child, that looks like my child, getting their head shaved! I'm so confused."

Tawana said she was "so angry" after seeing the video, and began "hyperventilating and crying" before picking up her baby from her mother's house.

"I came out of the car fast and River is just smiling at me, she loves that her hair is bald, the breeze on her head, you know," she said. "I didn't have a go at my mum because I was just in disbelief. What can I do now? Even if I fight my mum, the hair isn't coming back."

What would you guys do in this situation?
