A woman has taken to social media to recall the moment she was informed that she was pronouncing the name 'Liam' wrong.

Pediatric nurse Lindsey was replying to a video by TikToker Dr. Carlton, in which he asked: "Tell me the most unfortunate name you've ever run across."

Leaping at the chance to share her experience, Lindsey (@lindsey_56785678) replied in a video of her own, explaining: "I have been waiting for a TikTok like this. So, I'm a pediatric nurse and I am from the deep, deep south. So, I butcher everybody's name - if it's not something super simple like 'Ben' or 'Sally', I'm gonna butcher it."

She then explained that one day at work, she saw the name 'Liam' on her computer and went to the waiting room to call the child's name.

"'Liam', I've got this. 'L-I-A-M, Liam'. Easy," she said. However, when she started shouting the name Liam to the room, she quickly realized that nobody was responding.

Lindsey continues: "Finally, this mom stands up and says, 'Do you mean Yum?'"

Check out the baffling video below:

After explaining to the mother that she was looking for a child called 'Liam', the mom told Lindsey: "Yeah, it's short for William." (As in - with a southern accent - "Willyum".)

Now, as a guy named 'Stefan', I've heard many bizarre mispronunciations of my name. But I have never heard anything quite like the name "Yum" for "Liam" as a way of shortening "William".

It's so mad, it almost makes sense.

After Lindsey's video amassed over 3.7 million views and more than 197,000 likes, the response has been as hilarious as the unfortunate misunderstanding.

Per The Mirror, one commenter wrote: "As a mom of a Liam, I am perturbed."

A second joked: "My son's name was Liam. His new name is Yum."

Others also shared their hilarious encounters with unique names, with one TikTok user writing: "Had a patient named L-A, I called for LA. Mom quickly informed me it's pronounced Ladasha and did I not see the dash? Ummm ok."

And another TikToker commented: "Had a student named Justin, last name Case. He said 'My mom thinks she has a sense of humour'."

Unbelievably, this whole trend kicked off with Dr. Carlton revealing that he actually went to school with a guy named Richard Head. And if you don't understand why that's unfortunate, I suggest you ask your parents.

Anyway, I'm just going to watch Taken starring my favorite actor, Yum Neeson. Or perhaps I'll check out Yum Hemsworth in The Hunger Games.
