If you're an avid internet user, the chances are you're going to be familiar with the concept of a "glow up".

Essentially, it's when a person feels that they have undergone a transformation in terms of their attractiveness - in a positive way.

Glow-ups, which are very popular on social media, tend to come in the form of a series of pictures depicting what someone looked like pre-glow - usually taken when they were quite a bit younger and still in the 'awkward' phase of their life.

And of course, a glow-up post wouldn't be complete without the pics showcasing their new and "improved" appearance.

However, not everybody is like a fine wine, which is why Aussie TikToker Gabrielle McDonald (@gabslife99 on the video-sharing app) started a new social media challenge: the glow-down.

In a bid to show solidarity with people who “physically peaked in high school”, she asked her fellow Tiktokers the post their glow down images.

Take a look at Gabrielle's video below:

Here are some of the TikTok videos that came about as a result of the new challenge:

Naturally, with everything that's going on in the world, people aren't feeling particularly optimistic. And the pandemic has sort of made a "glow down" trend inevitable.

Lockdown hasn't exactly done wonders for people's self-esteem as far as their physical appearance is concerned. With social distancing guidelines and people spending more time at home, people aren't working out as much and are more prone to snacking.

As a result, some people have gained weight over the last few months and are finding it difficult to cope with the change in their appearance.

And aside from that, a lot of people are working from home and aren't spending as much time with friends. Because of this, many have become less motivated to "make an effort".

While all of this is completely understandable, and your looks and weight don't define you as a person, grappling with noticeable physical changes in a short space of time can be difficult to deal with.

Hopefully, this trend will be a source of inspiration for people who are feeling down about certain aspects of their appearance!
