For many of us, being able to unwind in a nice, hot bath is the epitome of relaxation.

But how would you feel if everyone in your household had a soak in the exact same bathwater before you got your turn?

We'll hazard a guess that for many of you, sharing the same bathwater with members of your family isn't exactly the most appealing thought. But, it turns out, that there are people who will happily use what's leftover in the tub to clean themselves.

In fact, just last month, Good Morning Britain saw property expert Sarah Beeny defend the habit after fellow guest and The Apprentice star Luisa Zissman branded it as "unhygienic".

Check out how the debate unfolded here:

Sarah, who sometimes reuses the same bathwater as her husband and four sons to avoid waste, said she was "amazed" at the "furor" the topic had sparked.

However, Luisa argued: "I think of the dead skin cells. If you're going to save the planet, there are other ways to save the planet, don't eat meat, don't eat dairy, it's the best thing you can do, and having a shower saves water and it's much cleaner."

A defiant Sarah responded: "I don't like showers and I'm not going to suddenly have showers because lots of people think I should. Personally, I like a bath and secondly, your skin falls off all day.

"It doesn't just store up and fall off when you get in the bath. If you wear your husband's jumper it will be full of his skin cells."

When the episode aired, a number of viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the discussion. And now, the debate has been taken to Instagram, with Refinery29 UK asking their followers to weigh in.

One person admitted: "Guilty as charged. I always go first though!"

Another pro-bath-sharer tweeted: "It's amazing the people who complain about the environment but as soon as anybody tries [doing] anything they perceive as the tiniest hardship they are not interested in how much energy or water it saves."

But it turns out that most people are fiercely against the idea of sharing bathwater:

One critic wrote: "This is such a chaotic question lmao. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. Why on earth would you want to bathe in someone else’s filth lmao? You may as well not bath."

Another added: "I don't know how you can manage to keep the water warm tbh."

While a third wrote: "I don’t even like sharing bathwater with myself. Gross. Baths are for relaxing not cleaning."

What do you think? Is it unhygienic to share bathwater with family or are the critics making a mountain out of a molehill? Let us know in the comments!
