The world of designer fashion can be a weird place at times, and sometimes high-end clothes could be mistaken for those which cost a lot less.

Case in point, Ralph Lauren's new $802 (£620) overalls that come complete with paint already on them. Perfect if you want to convince someone you've been decorating when you haven't been!

Why are they so expensive? I hear you ask. Well, despite looking like they are made of denim, these overalls are actually made from Japanese cotton satin, which is why they come with such a steep price tag.

As you can imagine, news of the overalls went down like a lead balloon on social media.

One Twitter user questioned who would actually buy such an outfit, writing: "Who actually buys this sh*t?" to which someone replied, "People with more money than sense."

A second Twitter user wrote: "Jfc! Maybe actually graft and someone will pay you £600+ to make them look like that [sic]!"

Meanwhile, a third Twitter user joked: "Isn't that the outfit the dude from Halloween wore? Does it include the mask?"

Fair point if you're willing to pay a figurative arm and a leg to slay on the 31st.

However, this is far from the first time that a designer has sold worn-looking clothes for extortionate designer prices. Gucci hit the headlines last month for their $773 (£600) grass-stained jeans.

The product description for the jeans reads: "Channelling the Fall Winter 2020 collection's grunge vibe, this wide-leg denim pant is crafted from organic cotton specifically treated for a stained-like, distressed effect."

"Gucci explores new takes on the cult fabric, reinterpreting it with different designs and washing techniques that blur the line between vintage and contemporary."

Needless to say, this item of clothing didn't go down well on social media either.

One Twitter user wrote: "Gucci is gone mad with these grass stained [sic] jeans. £600 when I can do it for free in my garden?????"

A second joked: "How did it take so long for this to become a thing? My entire wardrobe just became more valuable!"

Well, on the plus side, if you have some clothes that look worse for wear, they are very much in right now!
