Weddings may be joyous occasions, but they also come with some rather questionable traditions.

From everybody gathering around to watch a newly married couple feed each other a piece of cake to a bride throwing an expensive bouquet of flowers at her single friends - it is a wonder how many of these traditions continue to this day.

However, as well as being bizarre, there are also some traditions that are purely outdated - namely, the bride being given away by her father like a piece of property and the noxious ideology that there is a value to be derived from her virginity.

Fortunately, this is pretty much a non-issue for most brides these days, however,

A Twitter user by the name of Issac shared a typed letter one of his best friends had apparently received from the father of his high school girlfriend.

Issac revealed that his friend's current wife found the letter in their mailbox, and that it had been written by his high school sweetheart's father. Issac wrote alongside pictures of the letter:

"One of my best and oldest friends broke up with his high school girlfriend over a decade ago. Today, his wife of 7 years found this absolute ornament in their mailbox.

"Just...stop what you're doing and read..."

And it turns out the father was not too pleased about his daughter having sex with her ex-boyfriend.

The man - who has remained unidentified - introduces the two-page letter by writing the header: "RE: DEMAND FOR RESTITUTION FOR STEALING MY DAUGHTER’S HONOR".

What follows in a rant at his daughter's ex-boyfriend for "stealing" her virginity 10 years prior. It begins:

"It has been nearly ten years since I learned that you stole my daughter [name redacted]'s virginity."

He continues: "For a brief pleasure, you forever took from me the sublime joy of giving my pure, virgin daughter away in marriage to her chosen husband."

Then things escalate rather quickly, as he writes: "I will tell you that my wrath against you is so great that to kill you by prolonged and extreme torture followed by the thorough desecration and destruction of your corpse would not be enough to extinguish my anger."

Fortunately, this heated language is quickly followed by dad admitting that "doing harm to a fellow Christian is an impossibility" to him - phew!

The dad then quotes a series of passages from the Bible, as well as some arithmetic, in order to calculate what is "owed" to him.

Essentially, Issac's friend would have owed seven years of "full-time service" as a bride price (the cost of her virginity), according to the father's interpretation of the Bible.

However, due to the fact that he and her father didn’t have an agreement in place when she lost her virginity, this makes Issac's friend a thief and her father states that he must repay what he stole seven-fold.

That equals 49 prime years... to the dad of an ex-girlfriend he had sex with ten years ago. A situation I'm sure we've all found ourselves in at some point in our lives.

The father adds: "Specifically, I demand divine restitution that will age you and rejuvenate me 49 years."

Put simply, he's saying that divine justice is this guy dying in his 40s while he lives well into the triple digits. Totally realistic.

"Even if my divine petition is not accepted and you do not age, know that you are still in the wrong and are separated from God until you are reconciled with me."

That's right - God will not accept Issac's friend until his debt has been paid.

Finally, the dad states that he has seen hell "firsthand", and says that even if his daughter's ex-boyfriend seeks forgiveness from God, he will not find salvation.

In a follow-up tweet, Issac revealed that his friend's ex-girlfriend "demanded" that he set the record straight about who broke up with whom. He wrote:

"So...the internet did it's thing and the ex gf has demanded I set the record straight: she, in fact, broke up with him."

He also revealed that she now lives in another country away from her dad.

You've got to feel bad for her...
