A bride has opened up about her wedding night, which she says ended in a request for divorce because she didn't want to have sex with her new husband.
Getting married is a huge occasion, as you legally devote yourself to another human being and make a declaration of your love in front of friends and family.
The day itself can be a daunting affair, with so much planning going into it and having to talk to every single guest, being wiped out at the end of the day isn't uncommon.
Especially as most will wake up early on their big day, and not make it to bed until late at night. So it's completely understandable if the outdated tradition of consummating the marriage isn't upheld.
Abbie Chatfield, the host of the radio show Hot Nights in Australia was left completely stunned after a caller explained that her groom wanted a divorce just hours after the wedding day.
"I was married for not even 24 hours before my husband wanted a divorce, and we separated two weeks later," the caller said.
The woman continued: "The night of the wedding we went out and when we got back to the hotel room, unfortunately, I didn't give him what he wanted. We were tired. I didn't want to."
After not having sex that night, the bride woke up the following morning to her groom demanding a divorce because of the events that transpired the night before.
Chatfield was completely shocked by this revelation, and went as far as calling the groom "revolting".
"Also, I've heard a lot of people don't have sex on wedding nights because you're so tired," Chatfield said. "What an awful, disgusting man. Men are revolting."
In history, there would be witnesses to see whether the newly married couple had consummated their marriage, and not doing so was grounds for divorce - but this is obviously incredibly outdated, and modern marriages do not work like this.
But, according to the UK Government, marriage is still technically "voidable" nowadays if no sexual intercourse takes place following the wedding day.
Though it should be presumed that in 2023, nobody should be expected to have intercourse when they don't want to - especially after a really long day.
It seems that the bride had a lucky escape if this was a sign of things to come from her new husband.
