A couple has shared how their wedding day went horribly wrong after the bride dislocated her knee during the first dance.
According to People magazine, couple Julie Benn and Paul Richter were finally able to marry after three years of dating in a wedding ceremony held on July 3 in Philadelphia.
Their nuptials had been postponed multiple times due to the ongoing pandemic, but they were both determined to see it through and tie the knot.
People reports that the video of the incident was filmed by Paul's sister Liz, and was later shared on her TikTok account, showing Julie and Paul dancing intimately together at the later reception party.
Check out the eye-popping moment below:However, the footage shows that Julie's knee popped out of its joint when Paul leaned her back. She can then be seen bending down to clutch her leg in pain; clinging to her concerned husband and hobbling off the dance floor.
The rest of the video then shows still images of poor Julie being taken to hospital in an ambulance, and later shows a picture of her leg in a heavy cast following her treatment by doctors.
Liz captioned the post: "She will be ok in 4-6 weeks. [sic]"
Commenting on the incident in a later interview with the above publication, Paul stated: "[Her knee] went out and Julie looked at me right away and she goes, ‘I dislocated my knee.' Just like that, she knew.
"So then my mindset goes from like: 'Oh yeah, we’re having a great dance right now,' to, 'All right, get her a chair.'"
Meanwhile, 34-year-old Julie stated: "[Paul's] holding my entire body weight and my dress, which is massive. And I'm like: 'I need to get a chair.'
"I'm simultaneously screaming. One of our dear friends is an orthopedic physical therapist, she works on knees. I saw her face, and I'm screaming."
According to People, however, the day wasn't completely spoiled by the accident. Julie was given a max dosage of painkillers as doctors painstakingly reset her knee, and the couple later returned to their wedding reception where to huge cheers from the other guests.
Julie's knee is sadly still swollen - but thanks to physical therapy she is working to regain her mobility.
