Getting engaged is something most of us plan on doing once in our lives, which is why there is huge pressure on a person to deliver when it comes to making a proposal as romantic as possible.

Now, you can have everything planned perfectly - but if you decide to get down on one knee in a public place, then you can never guarantee that the public is going to go along with your proposal.

Just take this proposal on a busy Brooklyn Bridge as an example (and a reminder to always look both ways).

Check out the problematic proposal below:

Shared to TikTok by user Joshua (the guy getting hit by the cyclist), he captioned the video: "Not my finest moment."

Since being posted to the social media platform yesterday (September 22), it has already been viewed over 927,000 times.

The video shows a dashing gentleman down on one knee, as he holds the hand of his hopefully soon-to-be-fiancée.

Related - This guy clearly wasn't happy when his wife proposed to him on live television:

The couple, along with the person recording the romantic moment, can be seen in the pedestrian walkway of the iconic bridge.

However, eager to capture the proposal from all angles, Joshua can be seen running into the bike lane and pointing his camera at the couple.

It doesn't take long before the inevitable happens and a shirtless gentleman on a bike comes rashing into Joshua, as the proposal comes to an immediate halt.

Still down on one knee, the hopeless romantic asks: "You good bro?"

In an effort to remove himself from the situation, the cyclist quickly composes himself and takes off, as the man adds: "It's okay. It's alright. That's in the video but we're gonna edit that out."

The video's comments section was quickly flooded with people responding to the collision, with one person writing: "Once I heard the 'talk louder' I knew this was gonna be a mess".

Another TikTok user added: "Of all the places to propose... the Brooklyn Bridge where there's limited space half of it being a bike lane that is used very frequently."

Others were quick to place blame on the cyclist, with one person writing: "Those bike riders are aggressive for no reason thinking they own the bridge anyways".

However, other TikTok users pointed out that it was Joshua's fault for being in the bike lane, with one commenter even pointing out that the first cyclist who passed him was forced to shout "Yo, heads up!"

Responding to the comments, Joshua has stated that "no damage was done", and accepted blame for the incident as it was his first time on Brooklyn Bridge.

He also added that he thought people would see that a proposal was taking place and stop, but "it looked like no one cared".

Welcome to New York, Joshua.
