The children of a deployed US major have discovered how they can use their doorbell camera to record touching messages to their father.

Yes, despite the Ring doorbell originally being devised for home security, the children of Major Peter DeCrans have used it as a means to continue their daily interaction with their dad.

Per a blog post on Ring.com, Major DeCrans has been in the Army for more than 20 years, and his most recent deployment saw him stationed in Kuwait for roughly 10 months.

However, despite being halfway around the world from his family in Forest Lake, Minnesota, that didn't stop his seven-year-old son Zerick and five-year-old daughter Petroula from communicating with their father - and it was all thanks to a Ring Video Doorbell that Peter's wife, Cierra had bought.

Knowing their father could access the videos, the kids would record a series of special moments for him - from loving messages to how Zerick learned to ride a bike without training wheels.

In an interview with Ring, Major DeCrans said that when he was unable to be home for Petroula's birthday, he still "felt connected" thanks to the videos.

"I was able to see that she was wearing a princess gown and bringing cookies to her classroom," he said. "You can't be there, but you still feel connected."

And Cierra - who originally bought the home security device so that Peter could keep an eye on the house when he was away - said: "That was a big deal to [Peter]."

"He could always reach out and know what was going on at his own home."

But then Cierra's father suggested that the kids use the doorbell cam to talk to their dad, and they loved it.

"You could just tell that it helped them deal with the deployment," she said. "They went up to [the Ring doorbell], and they just knew that [their dad] was going to be on the other end."

And just watch some of their adorable video messages! In one video, Peroula can be heard saying: "Dada, I love you so much. Please, come home soon. I love you" - it is exactly what we need to see in 2020.

In fact, the kid's messages have recently gone viral on Twitter, and people cannot get enough:
