A huge congratulations are in order for 106-year-old John Henderson and his wife Charlotte, 105, for not only celebrating their 80th wedding anniversary, but also being recognized as the oldest living couple in the world by the Guinness Book of Records.
Per the Daily Mail, the Texas husband and wife celebrated their Pearl wedding anniversary on Sunday, marking the milestone with a party in the assisted-living community where they both live.
Watch as the happy couple reminisce about their 80 years of marriage:The couple - who have a combined age of 211 - kicked off their celebration in style, as John picked up Charlotte in a 1920s Roadster - just as he did on their very first date together. He also gifted his wife a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Loved ones of the couple then gathered at the Longhorn Village Retirement Community, where John and Charlotte were toasted. Guests continued the celebrations with food and a slideshow of photos depicting eight decades of a happy marriage we should all be inspired by.
Speaking to KXAN, the couple's great-nephew, Jason Free, said: "They are a wonderful couple, and an example of a very happy couple - glad to be around each other, travel together, and live life.
"They'll tell you stories of the past, but they don't dwell on the past."
Jason also helped his great-uncle and great-aunt become officially recognized by Guinness World Records in November as the world's oldest living couple.
Fellow resident Jim Bissett told KXAN: "They're just gracious, nice, kind people. They're the salt of the earth."
John and Charlotte first met back in class at the University of Texas in 1934, where John was guard for the football team and Charlotte was studying to become a teacher.
Speaking to TODAY, John remembered the first time he saw Charlotte turn and smile at him: "Charlotte looked over her shoulder and smiled, and I knew I wanted to take her on a date. She was anxious for me to ask her!"
Five years later, the couple married during the Great Depression on December 22, 1939, just months after the start of World War II.
And when asked about the secret to a long life and happy marriage, John said: "Live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse."
Congratulations to the happy couple! The world has changed a lot in 80 years, but it's great to see their love for one another hasn't!
