A Texas man once went to extreme lengths to enjoy a few drinks with some friends without his wife knowing.

The doting husband would have also probably gotten away with his master plan... if his concerned wife didn't immediately alert the local authorities.

Back in 2013, a then-34-year-old Rogelio Andaverde wanted to go out and enjoy a few cheeky drinks with his friends in Edinburg, Texas. But, as the Daily Mail reports, Andaverde was scared about how his wife would react to his social plans.

As a result, Andaverde convinced two of his friends to stage an armed kidnapping.

So, on the evening of October 4, two masked men stormed into Andaverde's home and "abducted" him.

The Dallas Morning News reported at the time how his wife, Maria Hernandez, was left "petrified" and immediately called the police.

Sheriff Guadalupe Trevino of the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office explained that his team took the report "very serious" due to the circumstances described to them by Hernandez. "People don't just barge into your house and kidnap you for the hell of it," Trevino added.

Due to the severity of the claims, Hernandez was interviewed by police for more than five hours as she attempted to provide the authorities with enough information to track down her husband's "kidnappers".

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office even dispatched search helicopters and dozens of officers from the Department of Public Safety in a desperate bid to find the missing Andaverde. After several hours though, the search was called off due to a lack of fresh leads.

Therefore, imagine everybody's surprise when - two days after going missing - Andaverde returned home to his wife.

Although Andaverde initially told his wife and authorities that his kidnappers had simple let him walk free, the police decided to question him further.

Their investigation led to Andaverde admitting that he was staged the entire abduction so that he could "spend time with his friends and party".

At the time, Trevino told reporters: "I don't think his wife appreciated being kept until 4 or 5 in the morning, being interviewed by the cops while her husband was out doing who knows what with who knows who — he's going to have a lot of answering to do."

But Andaverde had to deal with more than just his unimpressed spouse - as he later pleaded guilty to the Class B misdemeanor of making a false report to police.

Andaverde eventually ended up spending 19 days in jail - a stark reminder that maybe you should just stay at home with your spouse tonight instead of partying with your friends.
