A man in Italy walked a staggering 280 miles to cool off following an argument with his wife, the Independent reports.

According to the outlet, after walking these hundreds of miles amid the country's lockdown regulations, he was approached and questioned by police officers.

The 48-year-old man, whose name has not been reported, is said to have hiked for a week in order to calm down after falling out with his wife, whom he lives with in Como, located in the far north of Italy on the Swiss border.

And despite the distance, he managed to make his way to Fano, a small town on the Adriatic coast about 280 miles south.

Police officers spotted the man at 2:00AM and questioned him after he breached Italy’s lockdown curfew rules.

They initially did not believe his story about walking hundreds of miles following a domestic dispute. However, after conducting a check on his name, they discovered that his wife had reported him as missing in Como a week earlier.

According to local reports, the man appeared to be cold and tired but was coherent. He told officers that he did not realize that he walked as far as he did in order to cool off following the fight with his partner.

He also revealed that he had been given food by strangers during his lengthy walk, which saw him on the move for about 40 miles a day.

When his wife picked him up, she confirmed that he left their home in Como after an argument a week earlier and had not seen him since.

She was forced to settle her husband's overnight hotel bill in Fano as well as cover the €400 fine he had been given by police officers for not complying with the overnight curfew.

Per the Independent, Italy put a nationwide curfew in place from 10:00PM to 5:00AM to help fight its second wave of Covid-19.

The outlet adds that people in the Mediterranean country are not allowed to walk or cycle in the so-called red zones unless they stay near their own homes. It also states that the regulations have not specified a particular distance which Italians must keep.
