A 55-year-old mother has said that she showers with her 19-year-old daughter every day.

In a new series of TLC's sMothered, Mary and her daughter Brittani, who hail from Jensen Beach in Florida, spoke about their very close relationship.

In a preview clip from the strange episode, the pair can be seen in the shower together. And this is apparently a regular occurrence. Speaking about their habit, Mary said: "I have been taking showers and helping Brittani since she was five."

Mary can be seen standing behind her daughter, and as the water hits her she says, "Ah that feels so good." She then proceeds to wash the teen's hair, telling her "You need to tan or something, honey. You're so white."

"I love her, and I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't believe I set out to have a relationship this close to Brittani, it's something that was supposed to be," Mary asserted.

And her daughter seems to agree, corroborating: ''When my mom does simple things like washing my hair or my body, it makes me feel comforted."

"Plus, I'm only 19, I haven't moved away. If that was the case, she would probably die from separation anxiety."

Speaking to the New York Post about their bond, Mary revealed she started showering with Brittani to help her deal with panic attacks, which they believe were brought on by the hot water. ''That's kind of how I started getting in the shower with her, just to comfort her because she would freak out,'' she explained.

"That grew into an every-other-day thing. When she was smaller, it was every day."

Mary's boyfriend, Frank, however, believes that it's time for a change, but Mary says that won't be happening anytime soon;

"It has caused some issues in my relationship, but he's got to accept it. That's how it is. He knows I love him, but I love my daughter more - she's my life."
