A mother has slammed her daughter's kindergarten for re-naming Father's Day to "Special's Day", The Mirror reports.

According to the paper, 36-year-old Karla Gardner from London was left furious when she saw the card her three-year-old daughter Daisy had made for "Special's Day", as opposed to Father's Day - which hundreds of millions of people celebrate in June each year.

Although the card included a sweet picture of her dad - 40-year-old Ed - that the toddler had drawn herself, there was no mention of the word "father" in it.

The doting mom argues that the move only teaches children that the men in their lives are not as important or valued.

Karla had originally shared an image of the card in a Facebook group and it was soon flooded with comments. However, the post was later taken down by the group's admin as it started attractive a great deal of negativity.

The stay-at-home mom, who says that Father's Day was completely disregarded by the kindergarten, is against the idea of kids being taught that their moms are important than their dads.

Karla also explained that the kindergarten in question told her that a decision was made to re-brand Father's Day as not all children have dads.

The concerned parent went on to say that although the nursery had intended to be more inclusive of those who do not have fathers in their lives - it has actually excluded those who do happen to have a healthy and happy relationship with their dads.

She is worried that her daughter, who made a Father's Day card for her dad last year, will wonder why she isn't allowed to celebrate the day, which marks the importance of fathers in many people's lives.

Karla is especially upset by the double standard by the kindergarten considering that she, as Daisy's mother, was given a hand-made card specifically for the occasion.

Ed, on the other hand, has been a lot more laid back about the situation, Karla admits. He believes that mothers typically have a bigger role where childcare is concerned and says he was perfectly happy with the Special's Day card.
