The issue of consent is something that has been explored a great deal more in the last 10 years or so. And these days, consent isn't merely discussed within a sexual context.

The right of a child to not hug or kiss a relative or family friend when they've made it clear as day that they don't want to is also a matter of consent.

In fact, one mom, who says she "practices consent" with her one-year-old daughter, has even taken it upon herself to make a whole video about the issue - and she is being applauded for respecting her child.

Brittany Baxter explains says in the video: "Can we please start normalizing the fact that kids do not have to kiss and hug adults? My daughter is almost two years old and I have been in the process of teaching her consent basically since the day she was born."

Check out her thought-provoking video below:

Baxter takes issue with members of the older generation who do not respect the fact that she wants them to ask her daughter whether she would like to be hugged before they engage in physical contact with her.

She says: "My daughter and her body do not exist to make anyone feel more comfortable and to make anybody feel more loved."

The doting mom claims that people have not had the best reaction when her young daughter makes it clear that she doesn't want any physical affection.

Baxter adds: "When she says no they are like 'oh, she doesn't love me, my feelings are so hurt and then they proceed to overstep her body boundaries anyway."

The TikToker then goes on to say that her daughter is not responsible for making others feel good by hugging them despite being uncomfortable with it. Targeting the older generation, she says they should learn how to "regulate their emotions".

She continues: "No one's feelings are ever going to be more important than my daughter's right to her own body."

The video has since racked up over 337,000 views and more than 35,000 comments, with many likeminded parents praising the mom for her stance on the topic:
