It's an old school of thought that love can arrive at the most unexpected of times and in the most unexpected of places. While for the majority of us, love rears its beautiful face in the early hours of the morning while on the sticky dancefloor of a dingy nightclub, for some people it enters their lives in a much different environment. Whether it's love coming to someone late in their life when all hope seems lost or just a chance encounter on the metro - you never know when it is around the corner.
Meet Sammy and Virginia. The duo met while on the streets of Nairobi and their desire to be together defies all the odds. The couple are often seen walking the streets together and, despite the pangs of poverty and an uncertain future, their love for each other is undying.
In wake of Valentine's day, a Kenyan photographer called MuchiriFrames took to the streets of Nairobi for a special project when he met Sammy.
"It was a usual ice-breaking conversation until we asked him if he had ever fallen in love. His eyes lit up and he gave a hearty smile exposing his nicotine dental formula. The question almost seemed therapeutic as he, in heavy sheng lingual, started describing his girlfriend. It was almost unbelievable that love would conform to such settings, a complete slap on the many things we have forcefully evolved love to."
Virginia is described as a "softly spoken shy girl with a humble smile and witty conversation." According to the website, she and Sammy met after living in the slums of Nairobi and bumping into each other in the park.
The author says that through the project, they aim to show that "love doesn't discriminate" and that it can happen to the any of us at any moment.
“Under the inspiration of love in its simplest form, we celebrated Valentine‘s with these amazing souls and came out with great testimonies. Indeed, beneath all the dirt, tattered clothes and slurred speeches there lies beautiful individuals who would thrive like the rest of us if we offered them the opportunities,” says the author on his website. “Love doesn‘t discriminate, here is proof.”
Take a look at the couple's incredible transformation photos below.
It's a heartwarming story and one which helps you realize that - among all the terrible things that are happening in the world - some people still remain pure. Good luck to Sammy and Virginia in their future; hopefully, with the attention that they are now receiving, they will have a more solid base from which to prosper from.
