Retired adult star gives two-word answer to question on 'how long sex should last'
A retired adult performer has shared an insight into how long she believes sex should last on average.
Sex is usually an incredibly personal thing, with the experience being unique to each couple, and there is no right or wrong answer as long as it's all safe and consensual.
However, while some people love marathon sessions and others prefer quickies, there must be some common ground to how long sex should last on average.
Ex adult performer Lisa Ann was asked to share her thoughts during an appearance on the $O$CAST podcast and her two-word response was interesting: "10 minutes".
She responded: "For civilians? Like untrained professionals? I asked my civilian friends this, they say an average of 10 minutes but maybe a little bit more if it's like a vacation, maybe 20 minutes, if there have been some like the guy takes the blue pill what have you, there's some Viagra maybe longer.
"But is it like 10 minutes, right? Because on set we're used to 45 [minutes]."
Amber Joy Layne also chimed in with her ideal length of time, adding: "From foreplay to finish, like 40 minutes."
Lisa Ann responded: "That's fantastic, that's ideal, right?"
However, the male podcast producer had a different opinion, questioning: "I've got s**t to do, what are you talking about? Do you have that kind of time? How about down the middle, 20 [minutes]?"
Lisa Ann then replied: "No, because she's asking for a nice bit of foreplay as well," to which he asked: "Every time?!"
While 10-45 minutes might be the average, there's no judgment if you're the type of couple that prefers to go for hours, or just squeeze in a few minutes of intimate time where you can.
As long as you and your partner are happy and comfortable with it, that's all that matters.
According VeryWell Health, research shows that penetrative sex lasts for an average of 5.4 minutes.
They add: "However, there’s no one average sex time or intercourse duration that can make your sex life good or not good.
"In addition, there are lots of different ways to be intimate and prolong sexual connection without penetration."
It does caveat that research into how long sex lasts is pretty hard to quantify, as it can vary depending on the definition of sex, whether foreplay is included, and if you're just timing penetrative sex.
Some Mandal, MD of the Medical Expert Board, told the outlet: "Sexual satisfaction isn't about a stopwatch, but about communication, connection, and mutual enjoyment.
"It's not about how long you 'last', but about the quality of the experience and the fulfillment of both partners.
"Open dialogue about sexual needs and desires is key to understanding if you're meeting your partner's expectations."
A 2008 study of only 500 heterosexual couples found that penetrative sex lasts just 5.4 minutes on average before the male partner ejaculates. It also found that being uncircumcized or wearing a condom did not make the sex last longer.
A 2008 study of sex therapists also found that penetrative sex lasting between three and 13 minutes is considered normal.
For it to be considered premature ejaculation, doctors quantify that as ejaculating less than two minutes after penetrative sex begins, while delayed ejaculation is diagnosed if it is not reached within 22 minutes or more of penetrative sex.
