The mother of a teenager has praised the baristas of her local Starbucks after they handed her a drink with a subtle message.

As reported by KRIS 6 News, staff at a Corpus Christi branch of the coffee chain started to become concerned for an 18-year-old customer after she was approached by a man. The teen had reportedly been studying quietly, when the man started loudly talking to her.

Unaware of the situation, staff quickly scrawled a message on the side of one of their takeout coffee cups and handed it to the teen.

Speaking to KRIS 16 News, the teen's mother, Brandy Roberson said: "I guess he was very loud and animated, she wasn't, she wasn't intimidated by it, however, this Starbucks employee came up to her and handed her this cup."

More on this story in the video below:

On the side of the cup, staff had written the message: "Are you okay? Do you want us to intervene? If you do, take the lid off the cup."

"She said she was like 'gasp'. She looked up and all of the employees were staring at her, ready to help, she was so touched by that," Roberson added.

Sharing a photo of the cup to Facebook, the mom also wrote: "My 18 year-old daughter was at Starbucks, alone, the other night. A man came up to her and started talking to her. A barista handed her 'an extra hot chocolate someone forgot to pick up.' How grateful I am for people who look out for other people!"

She added: "Thank you to the team at Starbucks on Staples and SPID in Corpus Christi."

"A great example for other people, for other businesses, I don't know if that Starbucks trains their baristas that way, if they don't, my gosh take a note from this crew," she told KRIS.

As of the time of writing, Roberson's heartwarming post has amassed more than 70,000 shares and over 2,600 comments from amazed Facebook users.

One commenter wrote: "So thoughtful and so happy to know there are incredible people paying attention."

Another Facebook user added: "This restores my faith in humanity. This is sorority, protection, and love for the other. Not a simple spectator who sees the danger and pulls out their cell phone."

A huge well done to all the staff at this Starbucks!
