Two 92-year-old twins have been reunited after being separated for a year due to lockdown.

Per BBC News, twins Minnie Walsh and Patrick Speed, who hail from Hull in England, spent their entire lives close by each other - apart from a two-year period when Patrick was posted to India during the Second World War.

However, the siblings were forced apart for the first time in decades last year, due to the danger that COVID-19 posed to them.

But restrictions have eased in England, and now that the brother and sister have received both of their vaccinations, they were permitted to finally see each other again in a touching reunion.

A video of their meeting was filmed by staff at the retirement home where Walsh and Speed currently reside in separate units; which shows Patrick walking over to his sister with a nurse before giving her a kiss and a warm embrace.

It was later shared on Facebook by the care home's parent group, We Care Group England, and captioned "Together at last! The twins Minnie and Patrick have not seen each other in over a year.

"Today, at Saltshouse Haven Care Home in Hull, they had the opportunity to meet after being fully vaccinated and tested – such a heartwarming scene."

Pictures of their family reunion were also shared on the official Facebook page of Saltshouse Haven on Tuesday, June 14.

These pictures were captioned: "Here we can see our beloved twins Minnie and Patrick chatting with Jim our kitchen manager [...] Jim and the twins had a lovely afternoon reminiscing about Patrick’s days in the war."

Per BBC, in a later interview, Minnie described how seeing her brother again moved them both to tears, and that she and Patrick "are full of joy" now that they can meet up once more.

Meanwhile, Indy100 reports that Saltshouse activity coordinator Chantelle Musgrove testified that many of the care home workers who witnessed the scene also cried when they saw Minnie and Patrick back together again.

Musgrove and added that it was "important for people’s emotional wellbeing" to reunite with their siblings and family members now that it was safe to do so.
