A devastated wife is seeking advice after revealing that her husband flipped out when she finally revealed her secret fetish.

Now, when it comes to what people get up to behind closed doors, I am a firm believer of "whatever floats your boat". However, one woman was left heartbroken after her husband of three years couldn't accept her "very private fetish".

In an attempt to find some support, the unnamed woman got in touch with the Daily Mail's agony aunt service, 'Dear Jane'.

In her letter to agony aunt Jane Green, the anonymous wife revealed that she has been in a "wonderful relationship" with her husband for the last five years.

Despite admitting that she's always been "a bit shy about expressing herself in the bedroom", the wife says that her husband has "always been really understanding about it" and helped her in unashamedly expressing her wants and desires.

But she goes on to say: "That is until last week when we were talking about our deepest desires and fantasies and I opened up to him about a very private fetish that I have kept hidden from everyone in my life for years."

I won't go into too much detail, but basically, she likes to use different vegetables in the bedroom -- something that she doesn't find "particularly disgusting or weird". Unfortunately, her husband had a different response.

"When I told my husband this, he flipped out," she writes. "He said he doesn’t know if he can ever look at me the same way again, that I’m like a different person to me now, and that he doesn’t feel comfortable ever eating something I cook because he ‘doesn’t know where it’s been’."

After being left "devastated" by her husband's response, she reached out to Green for some advice after her confidence was left in tatters -- potentially along with her marriage.

Offering some words of comfort for the unnamed woman, Green writes that Sitophilia - the "sexual arousal involving food" - is more common than we may think, and therefore, she shouldn't feel any shame.

Referencing scenes in movies like American Pie and 9 ½ Weeks, Green assures the wife that she is surprised by her husband's reaction, as "as far as fetishes go, this would seem to be one of the mildest."

Ultimately, Green says that the couple needs to focus on their communication, and that she needs to have an open and honest conversation about how her husband's reaction made her feel.

Communication is vital here. An honest conversation needs to be had about how this is making you feel.

"He needs to understand exactly how unsafe and disempowered you have felt since telling him," Green writes, adding: "My guess is that he will have no idea just how much his words have impacted you, and if he loves you, will not want you to feel that way."

Green ends by suggesting the couple explore food together.
