The manager of a café has come under fire for condoning a racist comment made to customers.
When handing over a bill to two diners, waiters wrote on the top of the receipt "two very annoying Asians".
Rather than condemning the racist behaviour, the manager of the restaurant in Brisbane, Australia, reportedly shared an image of the comment while joking about how much he "loves" his staff.
In a Snapchat post featuring the offensive receipt, the boss allegedly wrote, "Omg I love my staff" alongside three laughing emojis.
According to reports, a different member of staff at the eatery had called out the racist behavior but was immediately dismissed by their boss, who told them to "get a grip" and that it was "just a joke".
Despite the lack of remorse he had displayed previously, the manager in question told Daily Mail Australia that he regretted his actions.
"I personally wish to apologise for the offence and hurt caused," he said. "I've been a business owner in the area for more than six years, personally and professionally invested in diversity.
"I'm deeply disappointed and embarrassed at my actions as they go against everything I pride myself on," the manager added. "Internally, my team and I will do better to ensure we uphold the diversity and inclusivity that is at our core."
A local, who goes by @alex_carthos on Instagram, shared the offensive receipt on the platform as well as problematic messages between the manager and his staff.
The man said he "called out the behaviour because it is completely unacceptable in this day and age to refer to clients in this way."
He went on to say:
"Anyone in a management role knows this would be completely unacceptable. Referring to someone’s race after negatively describing them is a dangerously thin line to walk, and many would say it’s racism.
"It’s also potentially perpetuating negative connotations and racism towards Asian people, despite being unacceptable language to use to describe a customer, regardless of race.
"It is also important to consider the recent events towards Asian people in the world. When I pointed out the behaviour I was met again with unprofessional conduct."
According to The Courier Mail, the man responsible for the Snapchat post is a joint owner of a number of popular cafes in Brisbane including The Stand.
Per Newsweek, another manager at The Stand named Freddie Wintrip apologized for the incident in a private Facebook post.
He wrote: "Whilst this incident did not happen at The Stand nor were any of our beautiful performers, staff or patrons involved, it did not happen within our shared space. This behavior is truly unacceptable and I cannot condone it."
