A restaurant owner has won praise from social media users after sharing his response to a group of customers that disrespected his young employee.
Lee Skeet is the chef and owner of the Cora restaurant in Cardiff, Wales.
However, Skeet took to Twitter this week to reveal that one of his 22-year-old employees was "disrespected" and "touched" by a group of "rich" customers.
In response, Skeet opted to send an email to the head of the party, and not only called them out on their behaviour, but also revealed what he plans on doing with the £1,000 ($1,200) they spent at the restaurant.
Sharing screenshots of his email on Twitter, Skeet prefaced the post by explaining: "I’m not clout chasing or looking for likes. I just think we should start calling out rich people who think they can treat people like crap."
The email begins: "I wanted to firstly thank you for choosing my restaurant for your meal tonight, and I understand you had the biggest bill we've ever had on one table here.
"Unfortunately throughout the evening I was made aware that your party's behavior was inappropriate towards [Lily], who runs front of house.
"She has told me that - as a 22yr old girl - she was talked down to, disrespected, and touched unwantedly by members of your group."
Skeet continued: "I have spent the last hour having conversations with her that break my heart, make me feel like s**t employer, and a terrible dad having my own daughter.
"Please provide your bank details and I will refund your entire bill of £1000 minus £100 that I believe you should have tipped [Lily] - which I will pay directly to her - as you left no tip.
"I would thank you to never come back to my restaurant. Lily means a lot more to me than money."
The chef signed off the email by telling the head of the party: "I also think you should assess the people you surround yourself with.
In response to Skeet's tweet, people were quick to praise the caring boss.
"Brilliant care of staff from the employer - well done for calling it out," one person tweeted.
Another added: "So happy to see an employer stand up so fiercely and unwaveringly for a member of their team. I do hope they had the good grace and respect to do as you asked. I hope Lily is okay after that dreadful experience and if I’m ever in Cardiff I will most definitely come to Cora."
But this incredible story does not end there.
In a follow-up tweet, Skeet revealed that the email was an initial emotional response, and after thinking about it, he opted to give Lily the full £1,000 rather than refund the customers.
Not only that, but Skeet has also taken to Instagram to share a startling update on the group of customers - who allegedly worked for one particular company.
"After what happened other people have anonymously come forward from the company involved to tell their own stories of similar bad treatment, the director has stood down and the company is under an independent investigation," the chef revealed.
He added that although the last few days have been "hell" for both Lily and himself, he "could be more proud" of the way she's handled the situation.
"She’s talked confidently and with class to countless journalists on TV and radio whilst not missing a minute of running the restaurant to the highest level. I’ve just hidden away and cooked.
"This has all happened because of her class and integrity and I’m in awe of the young woman she is. Well done mate. You are literally an inspiration to so many people."
An incredible employee and an incredible employer! I know where I'm eating next time I'm in Cardiff.
